Because of its many advantages, flat ceramic membranes have been successfully applied in many fields of separation technology, such as bactericidal filtration, gas separation, pervaporation, catalytic reaction, wastewater treatment, etc.


1. The application of ceramic membrane in food industry is mainly to solve the problem of food quality. The ceramic membrane is used in the sterilization and filtration of milk, fruit wine, fruit juice, beverage, liquor, beer and drinking water, and the effect is very remarkable. The special point is that steam can be used to disinfect the whole equipment, so that the product quality can be guaranteed. Membrane technology has been successfully applied in the treatment of food wastewater, the concentration of fruit and vegetable juice beverage, the separation of mixed vegetable oil and so on. It is of great significance in the production of green food.

The large-scale application of ceramic membranes for gas separation is only one case of uranium isotope separation, which is being gradually replaced by other methods because of the low flux, high cost, unstable at high temperature and the contradiction between separation coefficient and membrane flux of porous membranes. The dense membranes of ionic-electronic mixed conductors and porous membranes with molecular sieving function developed in recent years have shown good prospects for development, which may have a great impact on the field of membrane gas separation.


3. Catalytic reaction combines ceramic membrane with catalytic reaction to form ceramic membrane catalytic reaction. The initial successful application of membrane catalytic reaction was the thin-walled harrow membrane used in ethylene hydrofining and perfume and medicine industries requiring high selectivity for hydrogenation.


4. Ceramic membrane for wastewater treatment can be used for long-term and stable separation under harsh conditions, especially for industrial wastewater treatment. At present, ceramic membranes are mainly used to treat oily wastewater, chemical and petrochemical wastewater, paper and textile wastewater, domestic wastewater and radioactive wastewater. Membrane bioreactor (MBR) is a new water treatment technology which combines ceramic membrane separation unit with biological treatment unit. With the advantages of high treatment efficiency, good effluent quality, compact equipment, small floor area, easy to realize automatic control, simple operation and management, this technology has attracted more and more attention and has become a hot spot in water treatment technology research.


5. The application of biochemical ceramic membranes in the field of biochemical engineering is one of the recent hotspots, including cell removal, aseptic water production, clarification of low molecular organic matter and biofilm reactor. Using ceramic membrane to separate bacteria from fermentation broth, there are more than 10 sets of industrial scale devices in China, which can not only improve product productivity and reduce device load, but also be very conducive to environmental protection and greatly reduce wastewater discharge.
