Development Trend of Ceramic Flat Membrane in the Future

The research of ceramic membranes started in the 1940s, and its development can be divided into three stages: the nuclear industry period for uranium isotope separation, the liquid separation period dominated by inorganic microfiltration membrane and ultrafiltration membrane, and the comprehensive development period centered on membrane catalytic reaction. So now, how does the development trend of ceramic flat membrane?

Firstly, the separation accuracy and stability of ceramic membrane materials are further improved to achieve continuous and efficient operation of nanofiltration level in the field of liquid separation, efficient separation of multi-component gases in the field of gas separation, and high-temperature ceramic membrane materials with large pore size and high porosity are developed to realize high-temperature gases in the fields of efficient utilization of resources and environmental protection. It will make process in long-term stable operation of solid separation.

Secondly, the control of the surface properties of ceramic membranes is realized. The application fields of ceramic membranes are expanded by changing their hydrophobicity, hydrophobicity, charge and biocompatibility. The low-cost production of ceramic membranes is realized. The bottleneck problem of popularization and application of ceramic membranes is solved by combining the design and preparation methods of membrane materials for application process.

Finally, the membrane materials with strong acid and alkali resistance are developed to improve the stability of membrane separation performance and expand its application in process industry. Because of the high technical threshold of the industry, the number of enterprises that can produce inorganic ceramic membranes and complete sets of equipment in China is very small, and the number of enterprises with large-scale production capacity and stable product quality is very rare, resulting in the concentration of production capacity and market share in the industry in a few companies. However, as a new product, ceramic membrane has a relatively short development time in China, so the popularization rate of downstream applications needs to be further improved.
