In 2021, World Oceans Day identified the theme as "life and livelihoods".
June 8, 2021 is the 13th World Oceans Day and the 14th National Ocean Publicity Day. The theme of this year's Ocean Day is "protection of marine biodiversity and harmonious coexistence between man and nature".
Biodiversity includes gene diversity, species diversity and ecosystem diversity. Marine biodiversity is a complex system formed by the interaction between marine organisms, marine organisms and marine environment. Marine biodiversity is not simply the number and species of marine organisms, but also includes the diversity of ecological environment and the complexity of their relationship. Marine biodiversity is an important indicator to reflect the health status of marine ecological environment, and is the main purpose and destination of improving and repairing marine ecological environment.
What can we do as individuals?
Less or no plastic
From their own, shopping outside as little as possible or do not use plastic bags, can be replaced by environmental paper bags or cloth bags. Reduce the use of plastic straw that is prone to misfeed by marine life. Do not discard waste (plastic bottles, masks, etc.) to the ocean. If there are children in the family, instill the idea of environmental protection into the children from childhood.
Adhere to garbage classification and resist over packing
Do not stack or litter at will. At the same time, abandon the bad habits of over packing, which will produce a lot of garbage. From my beginning, I consciously resist "white pollution" and over packaging, and turn "plastic prohibition" into conscious action.
Use new energy vehicles instead of fuel vehicles
New energy vehicles have the advantages of saving fuel energy, reducing exhaust emissions, high efficiency, low noise and low cost. But because the new energy vehicle is in the initial stage, some relevant supporting measures need to be improved.
No marine products purchased
More than half of the global atmosphere oxygen is produced by marine plants such as corals. Coral reefs are known as "tropical rainforests under the sea" and "oasis in blue desert". It is a geological structure, the highest biodiversity ecosystem in the ocean, and some of them are non-renewable.
No mangrove cutting
Mangrove is the only marine forest, and it is a rare woody viviparous plant. It grows in the shoal of the land and ocean junction zone, and it is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world.
